BREAKING THE FORMULA

Create your own image quotes about life - The best part of life is not just surviving, but thriving with passion..

Recently, I’ve been thinking of how easy it is to  subconsciously only care about surviving; to be content with being able to follow tested and trusted formulas for survival , (more…)

MOTIVATION

If you can’t fly, then run,

if you can’t run, then walk,

if you can’t walk, then crawl,

but whatever you do,

you have to keep moving forward.

AMERICANAH!

americanah

I’ve just completed the book ‘Americanah’ by Chimamanda Adichie, and I think it’s a really good book. I didn’t really know what to expect from looking at the title, and suspense is maintained throughout the book, even on the last page. Chimamanda’s style of writing is very easy on the mind, it felt like I was having well-structured banter with a friend, (more…)

NOT MY USUAL NEW YEAR

IMG_4957Happy New Year! Sorry for the long hiatus.

It’s crazy how the illusion of a new year seems to help believe that at least in the first month of the year you would sail smoothly, after all you should have gathered momentum from obsessing over your “new year, new me” agenda, right?

I walked into the New Year and headed straight into my first stumbling block for the year. I never expected it, (more…)

WORLD AIDS DAY

Losing someone very close to me to HIV/ AIDS is the one time I have truly felt the loss of a loved one. It jerked me in a different manner. I knew her status but hoped for the best, because HIV /AIDS is not the death sentence it can sometimes be perceived to be.

The last time I saw her she was as beautiful as ever, she loved me and expressed her love like she had always done, she was gentle, she was infected with the virus, but (more…)

GAINING EXPOSURE| {DEVELOP: BBC} 2014

I had the opportunity to attend the {develop:BBC} 2014 conference in Salford last week. One of the reasons I attended this event was to gain exposure to various topics in the technology industry. The event lasted a whole day and consisted of speakers talking about reactive programming, testing, databases, Clojure and platforms. Here are a few out of the many things I learnt at the {develop:BBC} 2014 conference:

  • The notion of creating systems that mimic evolution in nature. This corresponds to creating systems that are anti-fragile; anti-fragile systems get stronger in volatile conditions while fragile systems get weaker in volatile conditions. This concept applies majorly to managing errors in a system and perhaps making a system learn from errors that occur within it, rather than breakdown. (Zoe Cunningham, host).

MY SOCIETY REVELATION

Hello everyone!

I’ve been quite busy with university; with both the academic and extra-curricular side of university. I never thought I’d ever be the one to be busy taking part in the organisation of a society, I always just felt like I was in university to go to lectures, attend career events and graduate with a good degree. Having a revelation and being exposed to the sweet side of participating in a society is pleasing. I mean (more…)

OVER-THINKING WITH LOGIC

Emma: Hi Aisha! do you want some chocolate or do you want to grab a pizza?

Aisha: Hmmm! Do you mean inclusive or exclusive or?

This is the type of  conversation I sometimes have with my friends who are also my course mates. This type of thinking began after learning about logical connectives in our first year of university. We also began to shout the words

CODING| ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS

When I started learning to code in my first year of university I struggled for some time, mainly because I was trying to break the ice with a concept that I was very interested in, but was also very new to me. Attending lectures and practicals where there was help from the lecturer and teaching assistants got me through the tasks that were set, but I honestly didn’t really understand the concept (why and how things worked) until I started practising on my own. It was confusing because I understood the theory of what was being taught but didn’t know how to put it into practice.  (more…)
